Jabberü has three other centers in metro Washington D.C. and the response has been enough to warrant expansion into fast-growing Howard County. The company teaches foreign languages to kids ages six months to ten years old and is expanding to Columbia to reach even more families who understand the value of learning a second language early. "Columbia is a perfect fit for Jabberü. There are families in this area who seek out quality opportunities for their children to learn and grow," says Jabberü founder Rob Anderson. "We're already getting such an excited response and classes there haven't even begun." The new Jabberü learning center is located in Great Kids Village (previously PlayWiseKids). Jabberü’s first offering in Columbia will be Spanish on Saturdays, starting February 6, 2010. Jabberü offers classes in Spanish, French and Chinese for kids through a program its founders created called Language Naturally© which is taught by native-speaking instructors. "The Jabberü experience is designed to inspire kids to be good global citizens," says Anderson. "More than ever before kids today will need to learn other languages and appreciate other cultures in order to head off future conflicts, prosper in a global economy and make friends all over the world." Numerous research studies point to the relative ease at which young children can learn multiple languages. However, the majority of foreign language programs in the U.S. begin in middle school or even high school. Researchers note that after puberty (around age 12) second languages are learned in a different part of the brain. But younger learners can acquire a second language much more naturally, just as they are learning their native tongue. Anderson says the primary purpose for creating Jabberü is to drive demand for foreign language learning for kids while also increasing the amount of and access to quality language learning products and services. In its learning centers called JabberLabs, the young students take classes which are all activities-based and rely on a technique referred to as immersion, meaning the instructor only speaks in the language the kids are learning. Kids learn by playing games, through role play, music and arts and crafts projects. "We place equal importance on kids building proficiency in the language and having fun while they do it," says Shelley Whiddon, co-founder of Jabberü. Whiddon adds, "We know that we're competing for the valuable time of busy families, so we want to ensure quality learning and a positive experience, at which our instructors are experts." To make the classes fun, each week features a different theme which captures the imagination of the children. "We may be learning language for mealtime," says Emilie Moskal, Education Director and head of the French program at Jabberü, "but we do it in a creative way, such as role-playing a restaurant setting to practice food language. The activity is fun, but the result is the same - the children have learned the appropriate language." Jabberü has also identified the best in foreign language learning materials that are sold in their centers. They sell books, music, DVDs, games and toys for learning languages and exploring world cultures. The company plans to develop five learning centers in the Washington, D.C. area while also pursuing expansion into other businesses such as franchising, in-school contracting and educational publishing. About Jabberü: Jabberü offers quality foreign language education resources for children ages six months to ten years old. The company owns and operates language learning centers in the Washington, D.C. area, contracts with schools to provide foreign language education and creates original books, CDs and other materials in foreign languages. JABBERÜ FEATURED ON FOX 5 MORNING SHOW JABBERÜ AND ITS IMMERSION CLASSES SELECTED AS BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION FOR CHILDREN Company Recognized for Second Year in a Row Readers of Family Magazine, which provides a variety of information about parenting and childrens' activities in the Washington D.C. area, have selected Jabberü as the best foreign language instruction for children in the area. The distinction was made official in the July 2009 Best for Families edition of the magazine. "This is a wonderful honor to be recognized in this way by parents in the DC area," said Rob Anderson, President of Jabberü. "We are committed to increasing opportunities for young children to learn world languages at a young age because it is truly the best time for them to learn." This is the second time Jabberü has earned this distinction in Family Magazine. Last year, the company was a write-in candidate in the magazine - and the category of Foreign Language Instruction did not even exist. This year, Foreign Language Instruction was created as a category on its own and Jabberü was selected as the top company ahead of numerous other local providers of foriegn language learning. Jabberü was also nominated in three other categories, including Best Birthday Parties, Best Bookstore for Children and Best Tutoring. See a Video of Jabberü Classes See Family Magazine's Best for Families Issue " FORMER FRENCH POP STAR TEACHES HER LANGUAGE TO KIDS AT JABBERÜ Every child and parent who comes to one of Emilie Moskal's French classes knows that she is incredibly animated and has a beautiful singing voice which enables her to incorporate lots of theater and music into the learning. But few of them know that this talented and unassuming teacher was once a French pop star in the years following her graduation from university in Paris. She sang as part of a trio in the all-girl pop band known as Histoire de Filles. Their sound was sort of like a French version of The Bangles or Bananarama. The three chanteuses of Histoire de Filles made a name for themselves in the early ‘90s with 2 hits: Histoire de filles (which was to the tune of The Mamas & Tha Papas' California' Dreamin') and Oé. Emilie was also involved extensively in theater in Paris. For now Emilie has given up her pop diva hat. In exchange, she devotes her time to her wonderful family, raising two bilingual children, and teaching her native language and culture among a variety of interests. But while you can take the Parisienne out of Paris, you can't take the Paris out of the Parisienne. Or something like that. Her performing arts background gives her an excellent vehicle to connect with children of all ages to help them learn the French language. Experience Emilie's wonderful teaching style (and hear some great singing) by trying one of Emilie's French classes, coming to a free story time at Jabberü on Tuesday mornings in Bethesda or attending our Bastille Day Event on July 14. OPEN HOUSES SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 25, 2009 Bring the family to Jabberü to learn more about our innovative language immersion programs. Open Houses will be held at our Ashburn, Bethesda and Gaithersburg locations. Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. Members of the JabberCrü will be available to answer any questions. If you RSVP in advance and attend we will enter your name in a drawing to receive a special savings of $50 off summer classes or camps. Call 1-888-951-1119 to RSVP. JABBERÜ FEATURED ON NBC NEWS4 Beijing Olympics Inspires Interest in Chinese Language and Culture JABBERÜ STARTS NEW PROGRAM FOR BABIES 6 TO 14 MONTHS OLD "baby & ü" will begin in Gaithersburg Jan. 27 and Bethesda Jan. 28, 2009 Jabberü is staring a new 10-week program called "baby & ü" that introduces the parent or guardian and child to Jabberü and the sounds and basic words of Spanish in the context of all things baby. Baby & ü will be taught by Soledad Moras, the head Spanish instructor at Jabberü. The 45-minute class will be held Tuesdays in Gaithersburg at 11:15 starting Jan. 27, 2009. The Bethesda class will held on Wednesdays at 11:15 starting Jan. 28. The cost is $198 and the usual registration fee is waived for this program. Research shows that there are many benefits to learning a second language at a very young age and that it is much easier to learn a language from birth rather than attempting in adult years. In fact, in many cultures throughout the world babies begin learning a second or even third language right alongside their first. As informative and fun for the parent as it is for baby, this program teaches the parent or guardian useful techniques for exposing the child to Spanish through music, movement, stories and play. Following this program you may choose to repeat the session, or move into the language immersion classes for 12-36 months age group. The company teaches foreign languages to kids ages 1 to 10 and also operates retail stores, selling books, CDs, DVDs and educational toys that help kids learn foreign languages and inspire their interest in other cultures. The new online store at www.jabberu.com/store offers materials in Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic and Italian and in a category called "growing up global," which is the company's tagline. There are products for various age groups starting at 12 months and up, and can even be useful for adults seeking to learn vocabulary in a particular language. Most all the materials are only in the target language and are not translated or bi-lingual.
